Vision-Bot Warnings Details (Yellow & Red)

Below is information on how we collect and present warnings in Vision-Bot. This is up-to-date as of the timestamp of this article (see above, below title). Our long-term goal is to make all these configurable by your Vision-Bot administrator. Please contact us if you have any questions or feedback!

Last check-in

• VISION-BOT: Last Check-in
• JAMF PRO: /computers/id/{id} > report_date (XML response from API request). NOTE: This is the last successful update of the Inventory report (Recon). It's possible for a Mac to continue checking-in, but failing to submit an updated inventory report. We are most interested to know, how up-to-date and accurate is the data in Vision-Bot.
• WARNINGS:
  • Yellow is not used.
  • Red if > 28 days ago.

Workload

• VISION-BOT: Last Backup
• JAMF PRO: The following Extension Attributes are used and averaged over a period of 7 days:
  • Device > Inventory > Hardware > Memory Pressure
  • Device > Inventory > Extension Attributes >
    • DS Workload: Core Count
    • DS Workload: Load Average
    • DS Workload: VM Paging (only used on older operating systems that don’t support the Memory Pressure value.)
• WARNINGS:
  • Yellow if running CPU average > 3 * # CPU cores
  • Yellow if running average free memory ≤ 30%
  • Red if running average free memory ≤ 15%
  • Yellow if running average paging ratio ≥ 1.0
  • Red if running average paging ratio ≥ 2.0

Battery

• VISION-BOT: Health
• JAMF PRO:
  • The ratio of these two Extension Attributes calculates the capacity percentage that is used for the health check:
    • DS Battery: Max Capacity
    • DS Battery: Design Capacity
  • This extension attribute is also used to test if the battery has failed:
    • Battery Health Status
  • One more Extension Attribute is referenced for the cycle count:
    • Battery Cycle Count
• WARNINGS:
  • Yellow if capacity ≤ 75%
  • Red if capacity < 50%
  • Red if battery failed

Storage

• VISION-BOT: Boot Disk Usage and Percentage Full/Total Capacity
• JAMF PRO: Device > Inventory > Storage
• WARNINGS:
  • Yellow if disk ≥ 90% full
  • Red if boot disk > 95% full
  • Red if SMART failure

Memory

• VISION-BOT: Installed Memory
• JAMF PRO: Device > Inventory > Extension Attributes > DS Memory: Detail
• WARNINGS: 
  • Yellow is not used.
  • Red if memory slot failed.

Backup

• VISION-BOT: Last Backup
• JAMF PRO: Inventory > Extension Attributes >
  • CrashPlan: DS Backup: CrashPlan Log
  • Time Machine: 
    • DS Backup: TM Last Backup Time
    • DS Backup: TM Status
• WARNINGS:
  • Yellow if > 3 days ago
  • Red if > 7 days ago

Security

• VISION-BOT:
  • macOS: FileVault Status
  • iOS: Passcode
• JAMF PRO: Device > Inventory > Disk Encryption > FileVault 2 Partition Encryption State
• WARNINGS:
  • macOS: Yellow if a notebook released since 2018 and running macOS 10.15 or newer is Not Encrypted. Red is not used.
  • iOS: Yellow if iOS passcode not set. Red is not used.

Recycle

• VISION-BOT: Is the device 4-years or older? (Built-in to Vision-Bot)
• JAMF PRO: Is the device 4-years or older? (Built-in to Vision-Bot)
• WARNINGS: Gray, informational only. Yellow and Red are not used.

Repair Program

• VISION-BOT: Does the device potentially qualify for one of Apple's Exchange and Repair Extension Programs? (Built-in to Vision-Bot)
• JAMF PRO: Does the device potentially qualify for one of Apple's Exchange and Repair Extension Programs? (Built-in to Vision-Bot)
• WARNINGS: Gray, informational only. Yellow and Red are not used.
