Why Privacy and Security Matter, Anyway 

Facebook hacks, cybercrime, and non-consensual surveillance aside, the biggest issues we face keep coming back to why privacy and security matter for the health of our society.

Sadly, most of us respond to conversations about these topics by saying or thinking, "Oh, they can already see, read, and hear everything anyway so who cares?"

Or, "I don't have anything to hide."

Thing is, those perceptions are dangerous and also not true.

One of the foremost experts on these issues spoke eloquently at DefCon 23, one of the most well-known hacker conferences in the world. Bruce Schneier says it very succinctly in the first few minutes of the clip shown above.
