BACKGROUND
RingCentral has consolidated multiple apps into a single app. Glip, RingCentral Meetings, and RingCentral Phone have been merged into a single unified RingCentral App. Sounds like a good idea, but the transition has caused confusion and frustration. Rather than dwell on that negative here are a few tips to help make the transition easier. We have additional information at Tips for Better RingCentral Meetings.
SUMMARY
Every RingCentral Meeting has a unique Meeting ID. There are two types and it can be confusing which one to use:
- You have a Personal Meeting ID that never changes.
- You can also randomly generate unique Meeting IDs.
For simplicity we recommend always using your Personal Meeting ID to host all meetings. (In combination with a Waiting Room to control who gets in.)
Save your meeting information (it won't change) so you can quickly invite participants via Outlook to any meeting you host today, or in the future. People within your organization only need the Meeting ID to join a meeting. People outside your organization may be unfamiliar with RingCentral and need more information (see below).
INVITE PEOPLE OUTSIDE YOUR ORGANIZATION
Your Personal Meeting ID never changes so you can use the same invite to invite people to your meetings. In the three methods below substitute 123456789 with your Personal Meeting ID. Nothing else in the invites needs to change.

Why use this option? If participants cannot use the RingCentral app (maybe they don't have admin rights to install it or their network blocks it), then you can force participants to join via a browser by sharing this link. NOTE: Participants who join via a browser have limited Participant controls. They will not allow be able to share their screen and they must dial in.
Additional Details
The biggest issue we see with starting (or scheduling) a meeting, is RingCentral does not always make it clear which type of meeting you are starting (or scheduling). Is it your Personal Meeting ID, or a randomly generated Meeting ID? There are ways to "fix" this but its hidden and requires a few clicks (see ADVANCED SETTINGS below).
NOTE: You can personalize your Personal Meeting ID. However, we recommend against this because custom Personal Meeting IDs do not yet work across all RingCentral applications.
INTERNAL MEETINGS
Internally, within your organization, you only need to know the Meeting ID to join (or host) a meeting. Use the Join button to join meetings others are hosting — and to join your our own meetings using your Personal Meeting ID.
- Enter the Meeting ID to join a meeting:
- You can also select your Personal Meeting ID to start/join a meeting you're hosting:
CONFIGURE THE START BUTTON
If you want to configure the RingCentral Start button to always use your Personal Meeting ID you need to set this in the RingCentral.app Preferences.
- RingCentral > Preferences > Video Meetings > Personal Meeting ID > EDIT
- Click the Instant options box to Use personal Meeting ID for instant meetings:
