If your Macs are supported by Ntiva, they should be enrolled with Addigy, our Apple MDM (Mobile Device Management) platform of choice. Once enrolled, we'll do our best to keep your managed software secure via automated updates. If the app is closed, the update will run silently, and when you next launch the app, you'll be running the newest version.
But what happens if the app is currently open? You'll see a notification like this one:
You can run the update immediately if you like, which will quit the open application. Make sure your work is saved before you click the Update button. If you defer it, you'll be reminded again in 8 hours. If you want the app to update itself after you've clicked "Defer", just quit the application - Addigy will attempt the update silently every half hour and should succeed if the app is closed.
Should you continually defer an update past its due date, you'll see a more direct notification and be given a 60-second warning:
Once the window times out, or you click the "OK" button, the app will close and run the update. By default, we offer users 7-14 days to apply these updates before they're enforced. You can manually update most apps supported by this automation in MacManage, your Self Service application.
If you deferred an update and wish to run it, look for the new App Update menu extra in your menu bar:
When an update is pending, the icon will have a red badge, and you'll see a list of your available updates along with their due dates. Click the Update All button to apply all available updates; you may be prompted to quit individual apps as the updates run. Or you can click an individual Update button to update apps one at a time.
Be sure to keep your apps updated with the newest features and security updates to have the best experience possible on your Macs.
